Op-ed: Finally, RTVE will get a CEO

RTVE, Spain´s state-owned television broadcast company, has been without a CEO for nearly a year after dismissing former CEO Alberto Oliart. The People´s Party (PP) is backing Leopoldo González-Echeniques for the role. He has management experience in both the public and private sectors.

The Spanish Socialist Workers´Party (PSOE), in protest of legislative changes enacted by the government that it did not agree with, has yet to back a candidate of their own. Despite their right to protest, the opposing party is making a mistake by relinquishing its more important right to promote a candidate.

What´s most important now is that RTVE will finally have a CEO that can carry out a 204 billion euro budget cutback and integrate the services of Agencia Efe, the leading Spanish news agency and news content supplier.

The media company needs a professional manager that combines thrift, efficiency and knowledge of how to lead a strong information and entertainment service. González-Echenique´s has his work cut out for him.
