U.S. preparing fresh sanctions on Iran - WSJ

(Reuters) - The Obama administration is preparing to sanction nearly a dozen companies and individuals in Iran, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates for their role in developing Iran's ballistic-missile programme, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing United States officials.

Senior United States officials have said the Treasury retained a right under the nuclear agreement to blacklist Iranian entities allegedly involved in missile development as well as those that support international terrorism and human-rights abuses, the Journal said.

Iran violated a U.N. Security Council resolution in October by test-firing a missile capable of delivering a nuclear warhead, a team of sanctions monitors said, leading to calls in the U.S. Congress on Tuesday for more sanctions on Tehran.
