GENEVA (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry accused the U.N. Human Rights Council on Monday of focussing disproportionately on allegations of abuses by Israel.
In a speech to the Council in Geneva, Kerry spoke of its "deeply concerning record on Israel" and added: "No one in this room can deny that there is an unbalanced focus on one democratic country."
"It must be said that the HRC?s obsession with Israel actually risks undermining the credibility of the entire organisation," he said in a speech.
"No one should doubt for a second that the United States will measure these things, I hope, fairly and dispassionately but we will oppose any effort by any group or participant in the U.N. system to arbitrarily and regularly de-legitimise or isolate Israel," he added.
