PARIS (Reuters) - French police are looking into a series of bomb warnings made in eastern France last week but do not think they pose a serious threat, police said on Monday.
"Everything suggests that this is a bad joke or an unstableindividual," said a senior police official. The official saidthe investigation did not suggest a serious terrorist threat.
Traders in London said rumours of bomb alerts in Paris hadsurfaced in financial markets on Monday.
French anti-terrorism police opened an investigation intothe warnings made to a regional newspaper in Savoy, a policespokesman said.
No bombs were found but a letter written in Italian andreferring to the far-left Red Brigades guerrilla group wasdiscovered in a telephone callbox.
Earlier this month French Prime Minister Francois Fillonauthorised the extradition to Italy of Marina Petrella, aformer member of the Red Brigades group.
Another former Red Brigades activist, Cesare Battisti wasarrested last year in Brazil with the help of French police.
