Egypt multi-vehicle road crash kills 15

CAIRO (Reuters) - At least 15 people were killed and six others injured in a multi-vehicle road crash on a highway outside the Egyptian capital on Thursday, and fog was the probable cause, security sources said.

The sources said the collision took place when a bus and aminibus collided southeast of Cairo. At least six othervehicles then rammed into them because fog had loweredvisibility on the road and they could not see the crash.

The security sources, speaking on customary condition ofanonymity, said the confirmed death toll in the crash was atleast 15 but the number was expected to rise.

Reckless driving, lax traffic rules and poor roadconditions contribute to many road crashes in Egypt. A seriesof fatal road and rail accidents in recent years also triggereda public outcry over the government's handling of transportsafety.
