NEW YORK (Reuters) - A New York judge remanded IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn in custody on Monday on charges he sexually assaulted a hotel maid.
Strauss-Kahn is due to reappear in court on May 20.
Prosecutors has said they were concerned that Strauss-Kahn might flee to France if released. Defence lawyers said Strauss-Kahn denied the charges against him.
Strauss-Kahn was pulled off a Paris-bound plane on Saturday and charged with a criminal sexual act, attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment on Sunday in a scandal that appeared to wreck his hopes of running for president of France.
The allegations have also raised questions about Strauss-Kahn's ability to remain in the top job at the International Monetary Fund, based in Washington.
