MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Hurricane Karl weakened to a Category 1 storm on Friday after hitting Mexico's Gulf Coast, where residents braced for possible flash floods and mudslides.
The Miami-based National Hurricane Center said Karl was now packing maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour, giving it Category 1 status on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale of hurricane intensity.
