WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A magnitude 5.7 earthquake occurred on Thursday near the west coast of Chile, centred 40 miles (64 km) south southwest of Concepcion, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
There were no immediate reports of damage.
The quake hit at 2:01 near the epicentre (7:01 a.m. British time) at a depth of 10 miles (16 km).
