ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A suspected suicide bomber in Pakistan killed at least eight people and wounded 20 after detonating a blast near the house of a provincial minister who has repeatedly spoken out against the Taliban, police said.

"It was apparently a suicide attack. We have reports of eight dead, including two policemen," Jahangir Khan, a police official, told Reuters by telephone.
He said 20 people were also wounded in the blast.
Militants linked to al Qaeda have shown the ability to hit back and carry out a wave of bomb and suicide attacks across Pakistan in recent months despite losing ground in military offensives in the northwest.
