U.S. ahead of schedule in Iraq troop drawdown - White House

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A top commander told President Barack Obama on Thursday that the U.S. military was ahead of schedule for its planned drawdown to 50,000 troops in Iraq by the end of August, the White House said.

Obama also urged Iraqi leaders to "exercise their constitutional responsibilities and form a government without delay" amid a post-election deadlock following the country's March 7 ballot.
