WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. general picked to lead the war in Afghanistan told a Senate confirmation hearing on Tuesday fighting could intensify in coming months and said he would review often criticized rules of engagement.
General David Petraeus, who would replaced General Stanley McChrystal after his sacking last week, also restated his support for President Barack Obama's July 2011 date to start a "responsible drawdown" of U.S. troops.
