6.2 magnitude quake strikes Turkey

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A strong earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck near Elazig, Turkey, early on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake hit 13 miles (21 kilometres) south southwest of Elazig at a shallow depth of 6.8 miles (11 km), USGS said. Quakes of magnitude 6 and higher are capable of causing severe damage.
