Wanted Nigerian bank boss turns herself in

LAGOS (Reuters) - The former chief executive of Oceanic Bank turned herself in to Nigeria's anti-corruption police on Wednesday, three days after being declared wanted, a spokesman for the agency said.

Cecilia Ibru was one of the highest-profile executives to have been sacked by the central bank on August 14 when it bailed out five dangerously undercapitalised institutions with a 400 billion naira (1.6 billion pounds) capital injection.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which has detained 15 executives from the five banks for questioning, declared her wanted on Sunday in connection with fraud, insider trading and money laundering after she failed to appear.

"She gave herself up this afternoon. She is being interrogated," EFCC spokesman Femi Babafemi said.

Erastus Akingbola, former chief executive of Intercontinental Bank, is now the only one of the five bank chiefs not to have been detained by the EFCC.

He was declared wanted at the same time as Ibru, but local newspaper reports have said he has left the country.
