Kidnappers of Sudan aid workers demand ransom

KHARTOUM (Reuters) - The kidnappers of three Western aid workers in Sudan's Darfur region have demanded a ransom and negotiations have started, the governor of North Darfur told state media on Thursday.

Sudanese Media Centre reported North Darfur governor Osman Kebir had spoken to the kidnappers and the aid workers by telephone.

"Negotiations with the abductors are progressing well and could result in the release of the victims soon," Kebir said according to the reports.

The Sudanese Media Centre quoted the governor as saying "the kidnappers demanded a financial ransom and have promised that they are not interested in violence."
