BEIJING (Reuters) - Eleven miners were killed and 96 remain trapped after a gas explosion in a coal mine in China's Shanxi province, Xinhua news agency reported.
The accident occurred at Shanxi Jiaomei Group's Tunlan mine in Gujiao City near Taiyuan, the provincial capital, when 436 miners were working underground.
Xinhua said 114 miners were taken to hospital, where 11 died. Another 24 were severely injured.
There were no details available about the fate of the 96 missing miners.
