Former Israeli statesman Peres returns to hospital with chest pains -Jerusalem Post

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Israeli elder statesman Shimon Peres returned to the hospital Sunday night with chest pains, just days after suffering a mild heart attack, the Jerusalem Post reported.

The 92-year-old former prime minister and president suffered a "mild heart rhythm abnormality," the newspaper said, quoting local paramedics.

On Jan. 14, Peres suffered a minor heart attack. He was discharged from the hospital a day later in Tel Aviv.

Peres, a native of Poland, is credited with setting up Israel's nuclear capabilities. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 for his role in reaching an interim peace deal with the Palestinians. He has served twice as prime minister and was president from 2007 to 2014.
