Wall Street gains on M&A news, tech sector


    NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks rose on Monday shortly after opening lower, helped by some merger and acquisition news and strong gains in the tech sector.

    The Dow Jones industrial average was up 12.71 points, or 0.12 percent, at 10,210.74. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 2.45 points, or 0.23 percent, at 1,080.41. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 16.27 points, or 0.74 percent, at 2,212.72.
