Newell Rubbermaid profit trumps estimates
The maker of Rubbermaid containers and Sharpie pens said its net profit rose to $58.4 million, or 19 cents a share, in the first quarter from $33.7 million, or 12 cents a share, a year earlier.
Excluding items, the company earned 25 cents a share, beating the analysts' average forecast of 18 cents, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Sales rose 8.5 percent to $1.3 billion, above the analysts' estimate of $1.21 billion.
