Reid seeks to push ahead with cash for clunkers


    WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Tuesday put a bill to extend the popular "cash for clunkers" program on the chamber's legislative calendar for consideration, hopefully within the next few days.

    But Reid's press secretary, Jim Manley, said Democrats were still seeking a needed agreement with Republicans to proceed on the legislation passed last week by the House of Representatives.

    Senator Dianne Feinstein said on Monday she believed there were the needed 60 votes to overcome any opposition in the Democratic-led Senate. But other Democratic and Republican sources said it was unclear how many votes there would now be for it.
