Government and unions get cozy
Minister Fátima Báñez has concluded a round of meetings with the government, labor unions and management, and she finished up yesterday in Moncloa with Prime Minister Rajoy. Two months away from elections in Europe, the executive is looking to get his picture snapped alongside social agents. An image of dialogue and social harmony does wonders for a re-election campaign.
But why did labor unions and management want to be in the photo? They know good and well how they are being used by the Prime Minister. Maybe they are involved in negotiations about training reform.
They don't want to lose a tool that they have used for many years to finance their operations. A radical change to the system could cut this revenue stream, which is just the thing they are trying to prevent.
