Fighting corruption can cost
The nation scratched their heads in confusion and disgust during a legal investigation of what happened with the savings bank Caja Madrid. Justice Elpidio José Silva got the worst of it during the investigation while former Caja Madrid CEO Miguel Blesa increased his political power. It looks like the judicial process depends on your social and economic position and what friends you keep.
The Minister of Justice, Alberto Ruiz Gallardón, ended up protecting Blesa, who was his banker when Gallardón was the leader of the Madrid region. But things could heat up for Blesa still, because Bankia, through a brave move by CEO Goirigolzarri, is not getting involved in the case. With the banks support, perhaps the investigation can continue even though in Spain trying to fighting corruption can be costly.
