Several regional governments have suspended their plans to let private companies manage their pharmaceutical supply chains. The decision hints at fears that regional governments could suffer political damage because of battles about public/private healthcare system partnerships.
In Valencia, savings of between 10% and 15% on hospital drug costs were expected if management, transportation and stocking of the medicines was performed by private sector companies.
This step backward in planning a public/private healthcare collaboration means that officials are not confident that it will work and a lack of planning and a sufficient explanation to the public about how and what they will save money by transitioning to a public/private healthcare system.
