Ghost airport up for sale
A glaring example of wasteful government spending, the Ciudad Real terminal located next to the Castellón airport is going to be sold at private auction. The asking price is 100 million euros, but there is little chance it will bring this amount. Driven by the Bono and Barreda governments and financed by Caja Castilla-La Mancha, the terminal cost 410 million dollars in public funds. And it was hardly ever used.
This ridiculous expanse of useless cement, whose commercial success is very doubtful, carries more than 318 million euros in debt after a series of eleven capital campaigns from 2008-2010.
To top it all off, some of the developers behind the project, such as shareholder Domingo Díaz de Mera, are on the list of creditors that hope to get some of their money back before the sale.
