Catalonia boasts successful private-public healthcare model

Madrid falls behind other regional governments in its balance of public and private healthcare services. For years Catalonia has used the public-private model; one government after another in the region perpetuate a system that works. One report from private healthcare clinics estimates that Catalonia's contracts with private healthcare companies represent 24% of all its spending on healtchare. Madrid, in comparison, allocates only 7.8% of its spending on private care.

The Catalonians seem satisfied with the attention they are getting, which suggests that the public-private collaboration could improve healthcare management elsewhere. The dual system has won out over a unilateral public or private model for healthcare and also other public services like state-funded retirement.
