Op-ed: Regional television stations tighten their belts
With hopes that laws around audiovisual communications would be modified to privatize regional telecom chains, Spanish regional governments have decided to check the companies' excess spending.
It does not make sense that citizens would support basic social cutbacks in order to clean up the accounts of their local governments when they have received 1 billion in subsidies this year alone. It is useless to argue that they create employment, much less when they ask subscribers to pay an average of 140 euros.
And this amount is rising, because predictions of how much will be invested in publicity are dropping and being shared out among more chains. The federal government that is chosen on November 20 should yield passage and approve their sales. This is the only way to improve management, maintain jobs without penalizing citizens and free us from this burden.
