Pfizer says to cut 800 research jobs globally



    (Reuters) - Pfizer Inc said on Tuesday it plans to cut 800 research jobs globally this year in ongoing restructuring.

    Highlights:

    * Says cuts represent 5-8 percent of global research workforce

    * Says cuts largely from labs in groton, conn., St Louis, La Jolla, calif.,

    sandwich, England

    * Says job cuts will be in addition to about 10,000 company-wide job cuts since

    early 2007

    * Says slated researcher job eliminations due to new research strategy,

    including cutback in number of company therapeutic areas
