Nasdaq jumps on chip makers; Dow, S&P rise



    NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Nasdaq rose 1 percent in late trading on Friday, lifted by gains in large-cap technology companies and chip makers. Both the Dow and the S&P 500 turned positive, reversing earlier modest losses.

    * The Dow Jones industrial average added 36.12 points, or 0.36 percent, to 10,208.65. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 4.60 points, or 0.42 percent, to 1,091.44.

    *The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 23.34 points, or 1.05 percent, to 2,242.05.
