Stocks extend losses on Greece, energy shares

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks extended losses on Tuesday, with indexes tumbling more than 2 percent as fears grew that the financial rescue package for Greece may not be enough to prevent a sovereign debt crisis from spreading.

Energy shares also fell along with the price of oil.

The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 226.12 points, or 2.03 percent, to 10,925.71. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index lost 25.98 points, or 2.16 percent, to 1,176.28. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 70.31 points, or 2.81 percent, to 2,428.43.
