S&P, Nasdaq briefly turn negative after Bernanke


    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks pared gains on Friday, with the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq briefly turning negative, following comments from U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke that failed to explicitly signal any monetary easing was imminent.

    The Dow Jones industrial average was up 41.85 points, or 0.32 percent, at 13,042.56. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 2.43 points, or 0.17 percent, at 1,401.91. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 0.30 points, or 0.01 percent, at 3,049.02.
