Greece will get 5.2 billion euro aid tranche: euro zone official

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The board of the European Financial Stability Facility agreed on Wednesday to make a payment of 5.2 billion euros in emergency aid to Greece, overcoming opposition from some euro zone member states, a senior euro zone official said.

"They will get the money," the official said after a conference call to discuss the release of the funds, which Greece needs to meet bond repayments among other obligations.

The payment was questioned by some euro zone countries after some Greek parties which did well in Sunday's parliamentary election rejected the terms of the EU/IMF bailout.

If Greece were not to get the money, it would face financing problems soon because of a lack of cash for salaries as well as money for the redemption of 435 million euros of a bond maturing on May 15, a bond that was not fully swapped into new paper under the Greek debt restructuring deal from last month.
