Wall Street rises further on more upbeat data



    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks rose further on Thursday, with the Dow and S&P 500 briefly up more than 1 percent after data showed U.S. Midwest business activity grew more than expected in September.

    The Dow Jones industrial average gained 77.12 points, or 0.71 percent, to 10,912.40. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained 8.76 points, or 0.77 percent, to 1,153.49. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 14.27 points, or 0.60 percent, to 2,390.83.

    Stocks opened higher after strong readings in labor market and economic growth indicators.
