Stocks gain on consumer staples



    NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks advanced on Monday, rebounding from losses last week, after data showed consumer spending rose slightly more than expected in May.

    Consumer STAPLES (SPLS.NQ)were among the top advancers.

    The Dow Jones industrial average was up 44.44 points, or 0.44 percent, at 10,188.25. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index added 4.25 points, or 0.39 percent, at 1,081.01. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 15.03 points, or 0.68 percent, at 2,238.51.
