Wall Street falls on fears of slowing recovery

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks fell at the open on Thursday as investors fretted about the pace of the economic recovery, though a better-than-expected drop in initial jobless claims limited the decline.

The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 43.91 points, or 0.43 percent, to 10,254.53. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 5.53 points, or 0.51 percent, to 1,086.51. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 10.28 points, or 0.46 percent, to 2,243.95.
