Sadr MP dies after attack in Baghdad

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A member of parliament from anti-American cleric Moqtada al Sadr's bloc died after a bomb blast struck his car in Baghdad on Thursday, fellow politicians and a health ministry official said.

At least two members of Iraq's parliament and a health ministry official told Reuters that Saleh al-Ugaili was pronounced dead in a Baghdad hospital following the roadside bomb that exploded near his convoy earlier in the day in the Habibiya district of eastern Baghdad.

"The doctors failed to stop the bleeding and he is dead," the ministry official, who declined to give his name, said.

Earlier on Thursday, one of Ugaili's bodyguards said the politician's car was hit by a roadside bomb. A police source said a bomb was planted on a motorbike and exploded as Ugaili's convoy was driving by in Habibiya.

He said two bodyguards were killed in the attack and four people were wounded including Ugaili.
