EU executive to hold 'political debate' on rule of law in Poland on January 13
The European Commission's spokesman Margaritis Schinas told a regular news briefing that the body was obliged by EU treaties to safeguard the rule of law in all 28 member states.
Poland's new legislation on its top constitutional court and public media drew accusations that Warsaw was undermining democratic checks and balances in government powers.
