Spain's ruling PP extends poll lead but Socialists rise

MADRID (Reuters) - Spain's ruling People's Party would win a general election with 29.1 percent of the vote if it was held today, extending an earlier poll lead of 28.2 percent, a closely-watched official survey showed on Wednesday.

The Socialists would come second with 25.3 percent, up from 24.9 percent in the last quarterly poll from the Sociological Research Centre (CIS) in August, followed by newcomer party Ciudadanos which rose to 14.7 percent from 11.1 percent.

Leftists Podemos, which came second in the same survey earlier this year is seen falling to fourth place at 10.8 percent from 15.7 percent in August.

The poll was based on 2,493 interviews made across Spain between October 1 and 12.
