Italy austerity measures total £42 billion

ROME (Reuters) - The total budget impact of Italy's four-year austerity package amounts to 47.972 billion euros (42 billion pounds), up from a previous figure of 40 billion following amendments presented in the Senate, budget documents showed on Thursday.

The package, intended to help Italy bring its budget into balance by 2014, is expected to be approved in the Senate on Thursday, prior to final approval in the lower house on Friday.
