Stocks add losses after sentiment data

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks briefly extended losses on Friday following a report that showed a lower-than-expected reading in a gauge of consumer sentiment.

The data added to the pessimism fueled by Britain's Lloyds Banking Group announcement of bigger-than-expected losses, dragging U.S. financial shares.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 27.08 points, or 0.34 percent, at 7,905.68. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 3.24 points, or 0.39 percent, at 831.95. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 3.04 points, or 0.20 percent, at 1,538.67.
