Another intruder scales White House fence despite increased security


    Washington, Oct 23 (EFE).- Another intruder has managed to scale the White House fence despite reinforced security after an armed man made his way into the building last month, causing a crisis in the Secret Service whose most sensitive mission is to protect the U.S. president.

    Despite security reinforcements to the fence, the man jumped onto the North Lawn on Wednesday where he was caught by security officers before he could make his way to the presidential mansion, local media reported.

    It was the first such security breach since September 19 when Omar J. Gonzalez became the first armed intruder in White House history.

    That lapse, coupled with recent scandals involving the Secret Service, led to the resignation of the agency's director Julia Pierson, the first female to hold the post.

    Gonzalez, an Iraq war veteran with alleged mental problems entered the presidential residence armed with a knife just a few minutes after the first family left the building.

    On that occasion, the agents did not release the attack dogs as they did on Wednesday, thus failing to stop the intruder before he reached the building.
