French police probe bomb warning but see no threat



    PARIS (Reuters) - French police are investigating a series of bomb alerts in eastern France received last week but do not believe they pose a serious threat, police said on Monday after talk of bomb alerts in Paris surfaced on financial markets.

    Anti-terrorism police had opened an investigation into aseries of bomb warnings telephoned to a regional newspaper inSavoie in eastern France last week.

    No bombs had been found but a letter written in Italianwhich made reference to the far-left Red Brigades group hadbeen discovered in a telephone cabin.

    A senior police official said the investigation did notsuggest a serious terrorist threat.

    "Everything suggests that this is a bad joke or an unstableindividual," he said.

    Traders in London said on Monday rumours of bomb alerts inParis had surfaced in financial markets.
