Bombs hit worshippers at Iraq Shi'ite mosques, killing 17 - police

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - At least 17 people were killed when bombs exploded outside three Shi'ite mosques in Baghdad and at another in Kirkuk just as worshippers were leaving after Friday prayers, police said.

Sunni Islamists tied to al Qaeda's Iraqi wing have stepped up attacks this year and often target Shi'ite sites in an attempt to trigger widespread sectarian confrontation a decade after the U.S.-led invasion.
