Northern Chile shaken by 5.6-magnitude quake


    SANTIAGO (Reuters) - A 5.6-magnitude earthquake shook northern Chile on Saturday about 22 miles (35 km) east-northeast of the city of Iquique, but local authorities said no damage or injuries were reported.

    The quake occurred at 4:52 p.m. local time (7:52 p.m.British time) and struck at a depth of about 22 miles (35 km),according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

    "No injuries were reported. In the southern district ofIquique, power was partially cut," Chile's National EmergencyOffice said on its Web site.

    In November, a 7.7-magnitude quake hit Chile's northernregion, killing two people and injuring more than 100.
