Magnitude 5.9 quake hits off Indonesia



    WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A magnitude 5.9 quake struck off Indonesia's Tanimbar Islands, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on Wednesday.

    It said the shallow quake, only 6.2 miles (10 km) deep, wascentred 186 miles (300 km) west of Saumlaki, in between theTanimbar Islands and East Timor.

    The quake was not large enough to trigger a tsunami butcould cause some local waves.
