Tornadoes in U.S. kill 45


    DALLAS (Reuters) - Forty-five people were killed by tornadoes and thunderstorms that swept the U.S. South, the U.S. National Weather Service said on Wednesday.

    "Based on reports from our local offices, the death tollnow stands at 45. That is 26 in Tennessee, 13 in Arkansas, onein Alabama and five in Kentucky," said Roger Erickson, ameteorologist with the southern regional headquarters for theNational Weather Service in Fort Worth.
