Chubu decides to halt operations at Hamaoka nuclear plant


    TOKYO (Reuters) - Chubu Electric said it has decided to temporarily shut its Hamaoka nuclear plant, agreeing to a request by Prime Minister Naoto Kan who had called for the plant's closure because it is in an area where a major earthquake is expected within the next few decades.

    The company said that it would halt the No. 4 and No. 5 reactors at the plant as soon as possible, and that reactor No. 3 would remain shut.
