Money manager Chais dies, subject of Madoff probe

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stanley Chais, a Hollywood money manager who was under investigation for his purported role operating a feeder fund for Bernard Madoff, died in New York on Sunday, a city official said.

New York City medical examiner's office spokeswoman Grace Brugess said on Monday that Chais, 84, died of natural causes. She had no further details.

Eugene Licker, a lawyer who has represented Chais against civil charges by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and a parallel criminal probe, said he could not immediately comment.

Madoff, 72, is serving a 150-year long prison sentence for orchestrating a decades-long, multibillion dollar fraud.
