U.S. Congress OKs new unilateral sanctions on Iran

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Congress on Thursday approved tough unilateral sanctions aimed at squeezing Iran's energy and banking sectors and sent the measure to President Barack Obama to sign into law.

Final action came as the House passed the bill. The Senate approved it earlier in the day. While intended to curb Iran's nuclear work, the measure could also penalize companies from other countries doing business with Tehran.
