Kofi Annan says ICC needed for Kenya

NAIROBI (Reuters) - International Criminal Court (ICC) trials are needed for leaders of last year's post-election violence in Kenya alongside a local tribunal for lesser offenders, former U.N. chief Kofi Annan said on Wednesday.

"Let me stress here: it is not either a local tribunal or the International Criminal Court," he told reporters.

"It is both. Both are needed. Kenyans have welcomed the involvement of the ICC, and the government has assured me that it will collaborate with the court."
