U.S. Treasury sanctions North Korea trading firm
The Treasury said in a statement that it added Korea Hyoksin Trading Corp. to its list of proliferators of weapons of mass destruction. The action bans Americans from dealings with the company and seeks to freeze any assets it may have under U.S. jurisdiction.
The U.N. Security Council on July 16 imposed sanctions against Hyoksin and four other entities and five individuals linked to North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. The Treasury said Korea Hyoksin Trading was designated for its ties to another previously sanctioned firm, Ryonbong General Corp, which specializes in acquisitions for North Korean defenceindustries and supports Pyongyang's military-related sales.
