5.7-magnitude quake off Honduras coast
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The quake struck at 11:13 p.m. local time 1:13 a.m. EST/0513 GMT off La Ceiba, Honduras, and had a relatively shallow depth of 6.2 miles (10 km), the USGS said. Earthquakes that close to the surface are often more powerful than deeper tremors.
On May 28, a 7.1-magnitude offshore quake struck Honduras, killing six people, destroying at least 60 houses and damaging other buildings across the poor country of 7 million.
A smaller quake of magnitude 5 shook the Central American country last week, just before a meeting of the Organisation of American States in Honduras' No. 2 city, San Pedro Sula.
